GARO, a Tokusatsu franchise helmed by acclaimed director Keita Amemiya which chronicles the crusades of the titular Makai Knight against the dreaded monsters known as Horrors, has been picking up a lot of steam in the past few years. With several successful TV series produced since its inception circa 2005, its unique brand of horror, action and adult elements has seen it grow into a formidable brand of Tokusatsu entertainment. It would only be a matter of time before the IP would see production in other mediums.
FUNimation received the license to simulcast and stream the first half of the “GARO: The Animation” project, with 2014’s “GARO: The Carved Seal of Flames”, which features a setting and characters largely unrelated to the cast of its live-action contemporary work, save for the titular GARO armor and its wearer’s battle against the evils that dwell in the darkness. The second half of the project, “GARO: The Crimson Moon,” will see a broadcast in this late part of 2015.
Next year will see additional projects come to fruition:
Announced at the “Gold Wolf Appreciation Festival”, a new live-action series will be broadcast centering on the popular character Rei Suzumura, or the Silver Knight Zero, played by Ray Fujita. His last appearance was in the 2014 6-episode mini-series “ZERO -Black Blood-“. Additionally, “GARO: The Carved Seal of Flames” will be remade in movie format as “GARO The Movie: Divine Flame,” featuring Daisuke Namikawa reprising his role as Leon Luis, the wearer of the GARO armor in that universe.
Look out for more info as it comes!
