Astoria, N.Y. – Team PIE will host its second annual Defend the North fighting game tournament from October 24-25 featuring seven popular games: Hearthstone, Guilty Gear XRD, Killer Instinct, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros Melee & Wii-U, and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3.
For the first time, Defend the North will also showcase related elements of the fighting game community, such as cosplayers, art, apparel, and FGC-related companies.
The games will be streamed online via Team Spooky on Twitch.TV and casted by Arturo Sanchez. Team Spooky has over 120,000 followers and 62 million views on their page. Last year’s Defend the North stream garnered over 80,000 views in two days.
Notable competitors such as: EMP Hiro, STC Dieminion, STC Sanford, STC Yipes, PIE SMug, PIE Zues, Liquid Knuckle Du, and Killer Instinct EVO 2014 winner STC CDjr will also be in attendance. More will be announced in the coming months.
“[Team Pie] has a vision to host the first event that truly unifies the fighting game community in New York City in all of its facets,” said Andy Dumornay, CEO and Founder of Team PIE. “The FGC in the tri-state area does not have a home. Defend the North is here to give them that home. We plan on giving participants and spectators alike a unified experience uniquely deserving of competitive fighting games.”
Defend the North is a Capcom qualifier ranked tournament in the Capcom Pro Tour, along with the EVO Championship Series, CEO, Dreamhack, SummerJam, Combo Breaker, and more.
